about
this was written from the drums up. i sat at my kit to try out a new cymbal and rolled the 4 track. i also wanted to try some smooth jazz style beats. after sitting with it for some weeks i started hearing melodic parts. the gist of the song and lyrics were then shoehorned into the structure/pacing determined by the drum part. i think it turned out pretty...um, smooth.
lyrics
take this pile of books and throw them on the fire
i've taken all i can from these.
bring me all my clothes and we'll feed them to the flame
they aren't of any use to me.
i'm feeling alien, i'm gonna tear out of this skin.
i don't want to keep what anyone can take
i would sooner see it burn.
so take my pride, my senses and pack the tinder 'round
we're gonna burn me to the ground.
i'm feeling alien, i'm gonna tear out of this skin.
i've got to find an end so i've got somewhere to begin.
cause who i was and what i am are never good enough
now i'm here wondering if i'm losing touch
with who, with what and where i am.
so burn it down and start again.
take this pile of books and throw them on the fire
i've taken all i can from these.
bring me all my clothes and we'll feed them to the flame
they aren't of any use to me.
cause who i was and what i am are never good enough
now i'm here wondering if i'm losing touch
with who, with what and where i am.
so burn it down and start again.
one word: atmosphere. after hearing these songs live and digging the feel of the "demo" versions it's nice to hear it all in a cohesive package. somewhere between the raveonettes and charletons UK. wctm gold!
chock full of fun rock rumpus' equal parts 13th floor elevators and ventures; weird, charming and just a bit obtuse. glad to hear the songs sound just as good recorded as they translate live. wctm gold!
Toronto rivals San Francisco as the North American capital of jangle pop as evidenced by this new record of sunny jams from the Motorists. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 16, 2024
The Cleveland band temper uncompromising metalcore breakdowns with infectious jangle-pop melodies and ample dark humor.
