about
when i wrote this it was kind of a snarky jab at the 'rock-music-as-cubicle-job' attitude taken by the titular character; someone who sold his balls for "rock n roll." playing it now makes me think of some kid berating an older rocker for cleaning up and "selling out", not realizing that maybe that old dude has worked really hard to get to that plateau. even though that plateau is really kinda lame.
lyrics
daddy's little businessman
always prim and pure and true
only drinks on saturdays
and then it's just a few
working for the weekend
playing by the rules
paying for the bacon
by selling off the family jewels.
daddy's little businessman
works hard as he can
churning out more product
to sell across the land
always the professional
staying true to tack
be sure that you work his way
or he won't call you back.
lala lala la la...
daddy's little fellow
must be dressed presentably
associates encouraged
follow suit accordingly
there's nothing wrong with discipline
but when the day is done
just bashing out some rock n roll
is always much more fun.
one word: atmosphere. after hearing these songs live and digging the feel of the "demo" versions it's nice to hear it all in a cohesive package. somewhere between the raveonettes and charletons UK. wctm gold!
chock full of fun rock rumpus' equal parts 13th floor elevators and ventures; weird, charming and just a bit obtuse. glad to hear the songs sound just as good recorded as they translate live. wctm gold!
Toronto rivals San Francisco as the North American capital of jangle pop as evidenced by this new record of sunny jams from the Motorists. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 16, 2024
The Cleveland band temper uncompromising metalcore breakdowns with infectious jangle-pop melodies and ample dark humor.
