about
i wrote this while on tour with i,crime. there was a massive snow storm denying passage through areas of the rockies and entire states including colorado, where our next gig was. wyoming had been an entire days drive pulling into and out of truck stops as weather conditions dictated. we decided to hunker down in a motel outside of cheyenne, wyoming to wait and see if colorado would be open the following day. i'd been working on a line here and there all tour but in that motel room is where it all came together. we made it to denver and played at an anarchist collective...that's another story, though. oh, yeah, we were listening to lots of waylon jennings at the time.
lyrics
peeling back the sleeping bag to wake up with this sun
yesterday's hangover slowly dying.
pull out of the rest stop, start a 7 hour drive.
i never really thought to wonder why.
it's the rolling hills outside of phoenix.
it's the healthy girls of santa fe.
it's the crashing waves upon the coastline.
that's the life for me. it's the only way.
a cancelled show in bozeman, a snowstorm in wyomin',
denver wouldn't happen or so it would seem.
although i've often heard it, i've never understood it,
how it is that this is living the dream.
i travel light but my heart is heavy,
i travel far but my mind's at home.
though my body may be weary
this is how i live, that's what makes me go.
now the wind and snow make me think of home.
i heard today that it was warm and sunny.
but all that's waiting there is debt and dirty air
at least i'll always have the memory...
of the rolling hills outside of phoenix.
of the healthy girls of santa fe.
of the crashing waves upon the coastline.
that's the life for me. that's the only way.
one word: atmosphere. after hearing these songs live and digging the feel of the "demo" versions it's nice to hear it all in a cohesive package. somewhere between the raveonettes and charletons UK. wctm gold!
chock full of fun rock rumpus' equal parts 13th floor elevators and ventures; weird, charming and just a bit obtuse. glad to hear the songs sound just as good recorded as they translate live. wctm gold!
Toronto rivals San Francisco as the North American capital of jangle pop as evidenced by this new record of sunny jams from the Motorists. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 16, 2024
The Cleveland band temper uncompromising metalcore breakdowns with infectious jangle-pop melodies and ample dark humor.
