about
i think the lyrics explain thing pretty well. musically, i guess i was going for...i dunno. i just really wanted to do a "shred-y" solo on acoustic cause i thought it'd be funny and make my friends laugh, which it did. i couldn't resist such a silly thing in the middle of an otherwise kind of earnest song about being ostracized by people you thought were friends.
lyrics
this place beats you to the ground
and kicks you when you're down.
this place don't mess around
cause this is a mean town.
some folks say you'll never win
and that you'll just get sucked in again
and if you haven't got a friend
then this is a mean town.
though you try and you try, and you try,
but you don't know why you bother anyhow
when you can't turn this place around.
this town is mean
and there's nothing that i've seen
to change your mind,
or is it a matter of time?
...until you're just like them;
two faced, forked tongue with venom?
too cool for everyone?
yeah, that makes a mean town.
you don't have to live that way.
pay no mind to what they say.
it'll come back to them some day
cause this is a mean town.
you can't let them keep you down.
make them understand that you won't play their games.
you don't have to live that way.
pay no mind to what they say.
it'll come back to them some day
cause this is a mean town.
this town is mean
and there's nothing that i've seen
to change your mind,
or is it a matter of time?

charlie - stuff you hear.
one word: atmosphere. after hearing these songs live and digging the feel of the "demo" versions it's nice to hear it all in a cohesive package. somewhere between the raveonettes and charletons UK. wctm gold!
chock full of fun rock rumpus' equal parts 13th floor elevators and ventures; weird, charming and just a bit obtuse. glad to hear the songs sound just as good recorded as they translate live. wctm gold!
Toronto rivals San Francisco as the North American capital of jangle pop as evidenced by this new record of sunny jams from the Motorists. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 16, 2024
The Cleveland band temper uncompromising metalcore breakdowns with infectious jangle-pop melodies and ample dark humor.
